General Question

I'm looking to purchase speakers for my computer. I know nothing about this stuff! Any advice?

Asked by SamIAm (8703points) December 20th, 2010

Preferably from Amazon. Preferably really inexpensive (maybe under $30 if possible). Just to hook up to my MacBook Pro… nothing crazy loud (I live in a tiny apartment) and I don’t necessarily need a sub. I am looking for decent looking ones, with as few wires as possible, as they will be on my desk (everything in my apartment is white, so most speakers are going to stick out like a sore thumb).

Thanks Jellies!

Altec Lansing and logitech both make a nice product and both have what you are looking for (minus the white color) at Amazon

Altec Lansing

Logitech

JBL
Sony
Sony, again, with a battery option

*Note: I really don’t know anything about these speakers, either. I googled “White computer speakers” and looked for low-cost ones. These seem to fit you general requirements.

If i lived near you, i have a brand new pair of speakers i purchased at KMart. my pc system came with Dell speakers. i thought i was buying a better pair of speakers(sound wise), but not so. the Dell speakers are much better. anyway, best place to look for a pair of speakers is at a thrift store, like Goodwill. the price is right and you may be surprised at what you find there.

I bought a great set of Bose Companion 3 speakers, which I hook up to my iPod, my computer, and my television when needed. They were a little pricey, but they’re small and powerful, and I can now use my computer as I would a stereo. I got the recommendation for these speakers from a friend who is a trusted audiophile.

My fiance got me these speakers for my laptop last Christmas, and I LOVE them. I have a Dell laptop, and the onboard speakers are just terrible… I had been using the speakers from my desktop computer but they were too clunky to carry around with me. These speakers from HP are tiny but powerful enough that I can listen to music or watch movies without it sounding tinny, and they come with a little carrying case that makes transporting them super easy. I know they’re not white, but they’re small, awesome and only about $20.

I’ve never been disappointed by Altec Lansing for my computer speakers. (I’ve had at least two sets over time that I can remember, but none at $30) $50—$70 range.

Unless you are an audiophile and into high fidelity, then spend about 50 bucks and get a Logitech set with 2 speakers and a sub.
