How can I avoid sore joints after weight training?

Asked by anon67891 (7points) December 21st, 2010

I attend an hour long weight training class and find that the next day my elbows can be very sore. Am I doing something wrong?

Fish oil helps with joints. But more than that, just insure you stretch adequately before and after working out, and if you are working out hardcore, stretch later at night (without working out). Drink excess water, and as you would already know if you’re working out heavily, eat healthy (or healthier at least).

I’ve had good luck with elastic braces for the affected joints during the workout. For me it’s my knees, and occasionally one wrist. The pressure braces really help.

Take a good massage from your significant other every time you finish weight training.

800 mg motrin always helps but make sure you eat or drink some milk with it… not good on the stomach lining.

Have an experienced person watch you lift to make sure your form is correct. Many injuries happen as a result of lifting improperly.

stretch – WHENEVER it hurts. it flushes the lactic acid (a byproduct of anerobic exercise) from the muscles. And no matter how long you’ve been liftin’ weights, you’ll always contend with that. No pain, no gain.

Do NOT take ibuprofen after a workout as somebody else said:

There’s a good article on how to combat joint pain here: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/willbrink1.htm
