What are your good habits?

Someone asked a question yesterday about our bad habits.

What are some of your good habits that you’re currently accustomed to or perhaps are striving for?

I brush my teeth a lot. After each meal and two or three times between those brushings. I’m not so sure it is a good habit as it is an obsession.

I learned this from a friend who had a slobby girlfriend and tried to help her to change her ways, just a little bit, so that he wouldn’t have an anxiety attack.

I’m not a slob, but I like to hear about little tips and tricks to keep things clean and organized.

This is really easy (once you get used to it) It’s just called the Clean Sink Technique. I’ve stopped leaving dirty dishes, or crud in the sink. I either wash the dish immediately (and wipe the crud out of the sink) or rinse the item and put it in the dishwasher. If the dishwasher is full of clean dishes, I empty it immediately. I was amazed at how much cleaner the kitchen seemed when I started doing this. And I am now disgusted at the thought of dirty dishes (or food crud) left in the sink.

I also try to think ahead when I’m preparing a meal, as to how to lessen the mess that will need to be cleaned up after the fact. So I’ve followed Rachel Ray’s example by putting a big “dump bowl” on the counter to catch all of the scraps and crumbs and bits of packaging that accumulate while preparing food. You just throw it all in the dump bowl instead of having to continually open the garbage can (which usually results in having to re-wash my hands and dropping stuff on the floor). After all is said and done, I put the contents of the dump bowl in the trash. I also lay out a paper towel or a dish towel to work over so that I don’t get jelly and crumbs and gravy and olive oil or whatever all over the counter. And I keep a container of hand sanitizer on the counter so I can easily get butter or olive oil or other sticky stuff off my hands while I’m working.

And, if I know I will be washing some vegetables, I get out the big “dump bowl” and wash the veggies over this bowl. That way I can pour the water on the plants instead of just letting it go down the drain. You’d be surprised at how much water you use when you start working over a bowl. I also drain the water from cooking pasta into the dump bowl. After it cools, I pour it on the plants too. We have mandatory water rationing in our town, so this has turned out to be a great way to be able to continue to water the plants without wasting any extra water. I also keep a bucket in my shower to collect the water while I’m waiting for it to warm up.

I slam my car doors as loud as I can and hit the key fob twice to make sure I know and the neighbor knows the car is locked. I am very fastidious about locking m car.

@Cruiser Are you sure you aren’t just trying to annoy your neighbor?

I’m patient, call my Mom almost every day and a gracious host with manners and etiquette.

Whenever I get hurt, I’m pretty avantgarde for treating it, disinfecting it and all that. I see people just licking the blood off or wiping it with tissue and call it a day, and I’m like omfg.
Maybe I’m a bit OCD about it, but at least I don’t get nasty infections or crusted up piles of scabs haha. Although I do think scabs are pretty awesome. Do you have a scab? ’‘picks at it’’

I always say “thank you.”
I clean my ears out every day.
I do not double dip.
I never, ever, ever blow my nose at the dinner table. Never even thought about it until I met my mother-in-law.

I never promise more than I think I can do. If I do make a mistake, I own up to it as soon as I can. I try to tell people what they can expect from me at the beginning—even the bad stuff.

I take my responsibilities very seriously and attempt to fulfill them even when I am sick. I try to be nice to everyone all the time. This is not something I can always do, but I try. I also try to help others as best I can.

I don’t know if these are habits or principles. But those are things that are very important to me as I live my life.

Not yet @chyna I have the Police Cruiser Mars Light set on my Xmas list and if I get those…then I will be annoying the neighbors….intentionally…on purpose…with a gleam in my eye!! ;))

I take time for myself.

I try not to swear publicly; however, when I’m with friends… yeah, it’s another deal completely. It. Just. Happens.

Some of my other good habits, I suppose, is when I try to be organized and clean.

Ah I love these questions. Now I can brag about myself.

1. Open minded but not guillable.
2. I admit it when I’m wrong.
3. I’m always studying, learning and investigating. I’m always willing to learn more about something.
4. Choosing to do what I think is right over winning people over.
5. I take good care of my teeth. I’m always brushing and flossing them. (I’m obsessed with this for some reason).

I get the most bang for my buck… I’m in no way cheap or fugile. I purchase high quility items and food for my serval. I look for a deal, and I know when something is unnessary. I guess my habit is quality not quantity, yet for the best price. So my good habit is not being wastful of my means.

I’m always on time for appointments.
My house is kept messy enough to be a home but clean enough that you don’t have to worry about a tetanus jab.
I take in waifs and strays (mainly of the four legged variety but a few of the two legged variety have also slept on my sofa, sometimes with a member of the four legged variety).
I don’t kill spiders
I smile when I make eye contact with people.
I try to be polite and curteous when in public.
