I don’t think it has happened yet. One day I hope to totally shock and surprise someone with the perfect gift they never knew they wanted.
Walking with my dad in the woods to cut a Christmas tree down and getting a little toy kitten from my mom who told me a story about how she found it for me:)
When my older daughter was two. I will never forget her face when she came the stairs on Christmas morning.
I remember lying on the couch in the dark as a little kid, drifting in and out of sleep, on Christmas Eve. My parents and siblings were not home, so I was all alone. I had caught a cold, so I couldn’t accompany them on a skating excursion outside at a nearby park. But I felt really happy and content nevertheless, by myself, alone. It was so nice watching our twinkling, colorful live Christmas tree in the living room! For a little kid, the lights were like jewels——rubies, emeralds, sapphires, and diamonds all twinkling beautifully in the darkness. The whole house was quiet. Snow was falling outside. The fragrance from the pine needles subtly perfumed the air. That has been my favorite Christmas memory.
@lucillelucillelucille I have fond memories of “Christmas tree” hunting with my Dad too. But we didn’t cut our own tree like you did (which would have been more fun I think)——we went exploring at one of those makeshift “Christmas Tree Lots” looking for the perfect tree. My Dad had a full-time small business and worked extremely hard to support his family, and he was rather old-fashioned and stern, but he always made time to take us “tree hunting” during Christmas. I think that is my second most favorite Christmas memory! ;)
I have a lot of great Christmas memories. I remember every year driving around at night on Christmas Eve in my pajamas to look at Christmas light displays. I also remember 1998 Christmas (I was only 7) getting my first electric keyboard and not even noticing it because it was such a big unwrapped gift sitting next to the tree and I remember how excited I was to use it. I also loved going out in the woods to cut down a real tree.
My dad filmed every Christmas morning when I was younger and I love watching the old home videos. It’s adorable to see mine and my brothers’ and my sister’s reactions and everything. :D Me holding my stuffed cat in my arms the whole time and all the “wow“s. It’s cute. :P
For a more recent memory, just last year my boyfriend and I cuddled in the living room of my house a couple days before Christmas in the dim lighting and by the light of the Christmas tree. It was amazingly romantic and just all around awesome (even if I did kind of set it up like that on purpose). :P
in the 80s with a special man in my house in McKenzie, TN, sittin on the couch watching lights.
I have a lifetime of great Christmas memories and many of them come from our annual Christmas eve parties we used to have at my Grandmas home when she was still with us. The best memories there are when one of the Uncles would dress as Santa with his big bag of presents and come charging up to the back door of the house to surprise all the kids and how excited we all were to see him! And as the years went by and those uncles were too old to play the part, us cousins graduated into the role! It was a blast to play Santa for all the great grand kids. I miss those times a lot!
Catching my Dad putting my first bike in the garage! Loll
