What is the difference between oyster and mussel?

They are two different species. Mussels are from the family Unionidae, oysters family Ostreidae, and they are both bivalve mollusks.

Similar to the difference between Duck, Duck and Goose, Goose.

For eating purposes, oysters are usually served raw, have a slimy texture and moderate flavor.Mussels are generally steamed, chewier and have a very strong “oceany” taste.
