What are amsterdam poppers used for?

Im trying to find out what Amsterdam poppers are used for. I know it is used as a recreational drug use for clubs and it is inhaled. I need to know what it does to you and why it is used.

I think people inhale it and get briefly light headed or even drunk feeling. It seems like a quick way to kill brain cells.
It makes you feel lightheaded, like you’re having a head rush.
This may be a more suitable place to find your answer. Although not illegal to possess, sale and distribution is illegal in the U.S.
It’s an inhalant that is mentioned frequently in fear and loathing in las vegas (near the beginning when Raoul Duke’s attorney pulls over to the side of the road and starts yelling “Medicine! Medicine!” Dr. Duke then gives him a capsule of amyl nitrite.) Ive never personally taken them but from what i hear fear and loathing did a pretty good job portraying its effects.
