If your child wrote Santa a letter and the letter asked, "Where's Waldo?" what would you say?

Asked by wundayatta (58741points) December 24th, 2010

The children in question are pretty bright, old enough to know better and they believe that Santa can tell them anything, such as who the winner for best picture will be this year and where is Waldo.

I have watched maybe five movies this year and the only one I remember is Avatar. I don’t even know who Waldo is, much less where he is. So please help me.

What would Santa say?

You don’t know Waldo? He’s a famous character in the Where’s Waldo book series for kids – also known as Where’s Wally. The point is to find him in a crowd.

OK, so are you asking who Waldo is? Waldo is a character wearing a red and white shirt in a densely illustrated picture full of tiny images. He’s in a different place in each picture or book. The point is to look really closely and see if you can find him. Keeps kids occupied for a long time. If I were Santa, I’d suggest that Waldo is “in there next to something cool”, and leave it at that. If this isn’t anything like what you wanted to know, well then, I just feel silly. Merry Christmas, Wundy.

Fake it. There are “where’s waldo” pics full of all kinds of unrelated items. All you have to tell them is that Santa is not allowed to help them cheat. Finding Waldo is something tey have to do without assstance from the big guy.

Best picture choice I hear will very likely be Social Network although True Grit is getting great reviews.

Maybe Santa has been too busy to look at his Waldo book recently and can’t remember where he was?

@janbb I dunno, Black Swan is getting some pretty major heat and has already won tons of awards. Plus, the academy really loves the “the artist’s struggle” storylines (shocker).

”..on Facebook. Uh oh, you can follow him on Twitter!”

“He’s dead, Jim.”
“He was a bad boy.So I ate him.”
“I’m a fictional character, not Google.”

Was the letter asking for the location of Waldo, or one of the Where’s Waldo books?

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

@incendiary_dan My guess would be the answer to a page that’s kicking his butt…

“Near the Indian, under the ferris wheel.”
“On the bow of the third boat from the left.”
“He stopped in for a visit just a few moments ago.”

Santa never spoils surprises – it takes all of the fun out of things!

Santa brings presents. Santa doesn’t ‘answer’ children’s letters with letters of his own.

@CyanoticWasp I can assure you that Santa does, indeed, write answers. I’ve seen them. You could see them too, if you looked. He’d be a natural for Fluther. In fact, I happen to know for a fact that he turns to Fluther for help sometimes.

I would think the child wanted a Where’s Waldo? book.

Try to explain Waldo’s whereabouts in terms of quantum theory, i.e. that Waldo is actually everywhere at once until you actually see him. Watch some Star Trek first, and pad your explanation with technobabble.
You might also clarify that Santa does not know everything, just what pertains to his job. Though I suspect that has an excellent spy network.

Our Santa wrote notes back to our kids. The Easter Bunny, too. Just sayin’.

I definitely think Santa would say he’s not allowed to give away the answer, but if they keep looking they’ll surely find Waldo on their own.

@augustlan That sounds quai-religious; “I found Waldo!!”

augustlan's avatar

I say we all convert to Waldoism.

And then there’s the Waldo page of Waldo pages, where you have to find the true Waldo among all the pseudo Waldos. Very mystical.

Dammit. Please don’t do that to me.
