New Yorkers: What restaurants or must see shops do you recommend for someone staying in Manhattan (for work) for a week?
Coming to NYC early in January (after the snow has cleared I hope!) for work and would like some advice on places you love in the city.
I’ll only have evenings to grab a meal and perhaps shop. I’m looking for shops selling locally made stuff & restaurants that are wonderful / comforting and NOT chains.

Ellen’s Stardust Diner!!! The waiters and waitresses do musical numbers. :] The food is meh, but the entertainment is top notch.
don’t know your budget or where you are staying, but I loved Blue Ribbon Restaurant on Sullivan Street. Also, Gradisca on W. 13th is a fantastic neighborhood Italian place. Check out the web sites for both of them.
There are designer outlets in Soho, you may want to check them out.
Spice Market in the Meatpacking District is a must. As far as shopping, the two Moma shops are pretty great. So is ABC Carpet and Home if you’re into furnishings. Or, just take an afternoon and go down to the financial district and start walking north, meandering a little bit. I’m always amazed at what I find.
If you want original New York style pizza there are 2 places that you should visit. The first one is Ray’s at 27 Prince Street in Manhattan and the other one is Lombardi’s at 32 Spring Street. Lombardi’s is technically the first pizzaria in the U.S., opened in 1905, but the current location is one block away from the original location. Ray’s (at 27 Prince Street, not to be confused with other Ray’s pizzas, is the quintessential “New York style” pizza. )
You might also like the Cafe Carlyle. That’s the place that Woody Allen plays clarinet on Monday nights. You can check it out here
