Have you ever made a choice because of a philosophy you have?

What is the choice; what is the philosophy, and how did the one influence the other?

When in charge of people at work, I never, ever engage in group punishment. I think only the evil and the stupid do that sort of behavior correction, whether they are talentless teachers or overbearing military commanders… or a manager at her wit’s end…. or anything on earth… there’s never a need for group punishment.

The choice stems from a libertarian-type philosophy that no innocent person should ever be annoyed or hindered due to the bad choices of others, if possible.

I also believe that innocent people should be protected from bad vibes. Therefore, I’d never verbally correct an errant worker in front of customers, either. I’d wait till privacy occurs.

In my decades of work, I’ve never found a needed exception to this.

My philosophy of life help me to make every decision daily.

I agree with @kess – all of the choices I make have to do with some philosophy of mine..sometimes it drives people crazy because I don’t ever compromise my beliefs and what I think is right – I will never just ‘let things go’ because I’m human or they’re human and everyone loves flaws…NO…I will follow my philosophies before I follow my heart.

My love of eastern philosophy and peace, beingness, has influenced me to live in a secluded, retreat like setting, in the mountains for the past 18 years.

Integrity is tantamount to contented living and while I have much empathy and compassion for those that live in an incongruent state, I chose to only surround myself with like minded individuals that hold their character in high regard.

My philosophies also impact stewardship of my property, a refuge for wildlife, and I take great pleasure in creating a little nirvana for all creatures great and small. :-)

In my early life, my philosophy about individualism ran contrary to the thinking of the masses. If the masses made too much of something, I went the other way. An example of that was that I chose not to learn to drive in high school because the other children made too much of it.

My philosophical bent often ran afoul of necessity, as when I insisted on wearing my hair long, and being denied opportunities because of that.

In general terms, my philosophy has evolved over the years. It has narrowed from the lofty causes to the very act of choosing. Each moment in our life offers us the chance to make our best, and most informed choice. One must incorporate not only sufficient information, but one must be able to reconcile extremes, including all sides of each issue within the present judgment.
