For those not going out to a New Year's Eve party, what will you do for New Year's Eve?

Asked by jca (36062points) December 31st, 2010

Will you have a party of your own? Will you go to dinner and then come home for the arrival of the New Year? Will you stay home and eat something special or have some drinks? Stay home and chat with friends, play on the computer, or watch the ball drop on tv? Ring in the New Year with a bang? ;) or go to sleep and wake up January 1 and it’s the new year?

My wife and I are going out to dinner. After that we’ll be coming back home to watch the arrival of 2011.

We (my husband, my son, and I) are planning to stay up til midnight to watch the ball fall on tv. While we are up, we are going to munch on some snacks and play board games all night. Tomorrow we are going to a dinner at a friends house to celebrate the New Year.

I am going to the zoo to see the nocturnal guys you hardly ever get to see being active!

Twilight zone marathon.

My original plan was to go out dancing with my friend in another state.

Unfortunately I was in a car accident last week, so that plan’s out.

We’re now going to play games on her daughter’s Wii, and drink and be merry. :)

We will be home. I’m planning “linner” late lunch, early dinner of goat cheese gnocchi with mushrooms and onion, and a salad. This way, I can make munchies around 8:00PM. Thinking brie encroute, nachos or a cheese and veggie tray. I have 9 hours to decide! Hoping that we’ll also watch a movie.

Partied it up last night with a few friends & neighbors, so, no plans for tonight.

I usually do not go out on New years as I live in a rural mountain area and it just isn’t worth it to be driving long distances after having cocktails and the deer dodging on these roads late at night.

I’m a happy camper. :-)

Oh! I forgot the alcohol. I bought my husband some Guinness and some Harp so he can have black & tans and I have a yummy riesling for me.

We plan to watch a movie or two, and then drink some mineral water with lime twists.

In the event that I do not make my friend’s party (I am having difficult arranging a ride home) then I will do what I have done every other year: watch the Twilight Zone marathon on the telly. Good ol’ science-fiction!

I’d also love to step outside and scream obscenities at the year 2010 just before the switch to 2011 (as a goodbye and all, you know), but my neighbors won’t be as tickled by the idea.

The boys and I are getting some pizza, sparkling cider, and some awesome brownies for dessert to enjoy while watching a movie together!

Probably nothing. I’ll most likely be home alone until 11:30PM. Maybe we will watch the ball drop on TV.

@muppetish

If you come over here your shouting will be drowned out by the 21 gun salute on my mountain.

I HAVE to stay up til midnight or be ‘blown’ out of my bed when the riflemen start shooting. lol

I ‘ve been socializing daily since Tues, so to be able to stay home is a gift.

I hear some clattering in the kitchen, so I guess that Milo is baking my birthday cake. We’ll have a two—man-, two—women-, two—cat-, two-dude celebration.

@gailcalled

Oh yeah!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY GAIL!

Put that good for nothing feline to work…but, watch out for mouse heads in your cake!

I agree, ‘home alone’ is bliss out for me too!

We stayin’ home. I’m thinking of making something fun but not special. I don’t know what we’ll do. Maybe what we would normally do, or maybe watch a movie.

I wish we were going out to a party. Or had people over. But we just had people over for Xmas and that was enough work right there.

Go out for an early dinner with my wife, come home and watch “The Hudsucker Proxy.”

We’re headed up to Tahoe in a few hours, and with any luck, we’ll be there by midnight :) I’m gonna guess there will be some heavy drinking involved

Hmmm, I work every holiday. Tonight I work 4–9pm. I could do something after, but I know it will be really tiring today—it always is on holidays.

Maybe I’ll count down, maybe I’ll be napping, maybe I’ll be watching the tv. I’m not quite sure yet how I’ll feel. haha. Maybe a movie. Maybe I’ll be exercising..

My husband and I will most likely play some acey ducey, after we put the 2 year old down for the count, and snack on some goodies. Come ten, he’ll probably play a computer game or coax me into a movie or program whereas shortly there after I will fall asleep on the couch while trying to stay up until midnight or I’ll have accepted defeat and hit the hay. Though, in my defense, I am 9 months pregnant. Ah, and I had forgotten of the all day Twilight Zone Marathon! Thank you!

Stay home and be lame, like every other night! ;)

I wish I had something fun to do or somewhere to go, but I’ll just be hangin’ at home with my family watching Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve on TV. My sister and I are watching the Ghost Adventures marathon now on the Travel Channel. We always have our big meal on New Year’s day, ham and some other goodies. We don’t really do much on New Year’s Eve. We don’t even set off fireworks or anything. It’s probably because we’re all a bunch of wimps in my family and go to bed right after the ball drops at midnight.

Neizvestnaya's avatar

We’re all working but will leave early in order to have a family dinner out in a restaurant then gather at our house for dessert, coffee and a champagne toast at midnight.

It’s been over 20 years since I’ve lived close enough to enough friends to be able to gather and call anything a party.

MissAnthrope's avatar

On second thought, I might shake it up and play some Just Dance 2. I’m awful at it, but it’s fun. See, my life is really exciting! ;)

New Year’s Eve parties are not for us. If tonight is typical, there’ll probably be a normal dinner at home, and later on a Netflix movie. A little before midnight I will get my son to remind me how to turn on the TV, and we’ll watch the ball drop. (It’s never been the same since Dick Clark was followed by Guy Lombardo and the Royal Canadians at the Waldorf Astoria.) I’ll have a glass of champagne, and there’ll be smooches all around. My other son will probably text me a greeting from wherever he is, and I’ll return it. And then—back to whatever we were doing before.

Tomorrow my husband and I will attend a daytime potluck with one of these dishes . The guests will be people we’ve known for thirty years. Somehow they all seem older than they used to be and want to get home before dark, if not by naptime.

Im staying in tonight, watching a bit of tv before early to bed. I have to be up at 5.45am tomorrow so I’ll need sleep!

syz's avatar

We’re gonna watch “Blazing Saddles”, eat stir fry, and go to bed. We’re both tired.

Coloma's avatar

@syz

You arn’t going to re-enact the campfire scene with a big plate of beans? lol

Twilight Zone marathon and Papa Johns. :)
Oh yeah, I’m a party animal.

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

My honey and I are both tired after being with family at a funeral gathering all day so we’re not going out this year. I think we’re going to take down our Christmas decorations and have a little champagne, then he plans to go outside right at midnight and blast his train horn just for shits and giggles.

AmWiser's avatar

I’m watching the Twilight Zone marathon, cooking some coconut shrimp, and having champagne and chambord. And waiting for the children to call.
