Besides for the deaf, why do we talk with our hands?
I had a friend where if you put her hands down and not let her move them she wouldn’t be able to talk.
Second question…do you talk with your hands?

Why not talk with our hands? By using tone of voice, facial gestures, body movements, and hands we increase both the subtle nuances of our point and the chance that we’ll be understood.
I feel that I get my point across better when I gesture with my hands while talking. It would look funny if I just opened my mouth and kept my arms glued tightly at my sides. Besides, I do almost “everything” with my hands. (lol)
We “talk” with our hands for emphasis. If you just talked without any hand motion, you’d look like a robot, and it’d be weird.
I’m Italian. It’s mandatory.
As people said above, our hands aid in communication many times. When we describe something as small, and hold our hands apart 10 inches, we clarify how small is small. Our hands might show frustration, excitement, anger (the Italians are especially good at this, just to reinforce @cprevite. Jews also) and it becomes habit over time. When you tell someone who talks with their hands not to use tneir hands, it is almost like saying, talk, but you cannot use the word and or I, basically taking away part of their ability to communicate naturally, they need to slow down and think more.
I talk with my hands all the time. I think it’s actually increased since I’ve been in university (studying Italian and being around Italians all the time – it rubs off!). I accidentally hit people all the time. Luckily, most of my classmates and all of my teachers are Italian, so they hit me too.
I talk with my hands also. I’m loving the responses that I’m getting. Thanks!
