Why do people rave so much about Taylor Swift? I don't get it?

Asked by Earthgirl (11219points) January 2nd, 2011

There are so many more talented singer songwriters out there. Alela Diane, Brandi Carlile, Lisa Hannigan to name a few. I know she’s cute and all but her music doesn’t seem so special. Just another country singer.

Welcome to Fluther.

People enjoy her music and her voice is decent.

Who cares as to why.

@Jude And she’s cute. That seems to be a huge prereq any more. Not like when you only heard them on radio.

She’s been lucky enough to be signed by a major label, and therefore have her face plastered all over everything. Lesser-known songwriters may be “better”, but just less lucky.

She is cute, teens identify with her, and she has conducted herself with some grace.

I’m not even sure I’ve ever heard her music.
I think @Seelix is correct, though. Luck has a lot to do with fame.

Because her voice can give an angel multiple orgasms.
Oh, I’m sorry, I was talking about Nina Hagen. People like Taylor Swift because they like her voice in their ear vaginas. Taste is subjective

I’m not a huge fan, but I do think that she is a pretty good songwriter – especially for someone her age. (Some of the songs were written when she was in high school.) In the mainstream pop country scene, it is rare to find a top-topping singer who writes most of her own songs. I think that she is especially popular with teens because so many of them feel as if her lyrics reflect their experiences. Also, she has that classic homecoming queen look about her.

I’d also add that she has managed to have appeal to both country and pop audiences. Her crossover status expands her popularity.

@Earthgirl I hear ya! So she’s cute, so she’s a product of mass marketing. I feel her talent is marginal, and I don’t know if you saw her at the one awards show where she didn’t win when she thought she should have, but there was nothing resembling grace about it.

I think she kinda looks like an alpaca.

janedelila's avatar

@dverhey those legs…she’s huge. yep, alpaca all right

It because she looks like a chipmunk and sounds like a squirrel. Trully divine.

She’s also wholesome (like Carrie Underwood.) People really are sick of the Paris Hiltons of this world.

ur right. i dont care for her much either, but i know why others do. shes not horrible, and most of all shes pretty. and famous. and her childhood was a tradgedy and yadayadayada. (everyone loves a good sob story. unless ur me. *bring on the gore and 0% sympathetic value.)
