Do you have any creative solutions to this parking dilemma?

Asked by nikipedia (28095points) January 3rd, 2011

I have a good friend who recently moved from Orange County, CA to San Francisco. He no longer uses his car and has asked if I have any good ideas for places to store it for a few months in either the Bay Area or down here in OC.

My apartment complex only allows me one permit, which I need for my own car, or else I would just park it at my house. I am stumped. Any ideas?

Has he looked into pay storage? I don’t know what the rates would be, but he might want to check it out.

How about the long term storage lot at an airport if there’s one nearby?

Friend with a house and garage would seem like the best, most obvious place.

Do you have neighbors who don’t have a car, but have a permit? Work out something with them.

I like the idea of someone using it. That way it stays in working order.

He might have to drive a little outside of the city, but self storage might work. We do it here where I live 10×24 is around $120 a month I think. If it is a little car, maybe he can use a smaller space for less money. Parking outside behind the gate is $40 a month. I would guess it is more expensive there, but probably still reasonable. The thing is, he probably will want to be able to start the care and drive it aroubd a little twice a month, to keep the battery charged. So it would be good if someone can take him to the unit every couple of weeks.

Do you know anyone with a garage or extra space in their driveway?
