Which exercise is best?

Asked by littlekori (676points) January 3rd, 2011

So I am just curious, which is better? Jogging, using a tredmill, or an elliptical machine? And why?

It almost doesn’t matter, as long as you are moving regularly. (treadmill).

Can you or do you enjoy jogging outdoors? That’s a factor.

All three if used regularly would be just fine but I would consider the elliptical the best with the lowest impact on knees and hips and in the long run that is the better option. Plus the elliptical gives a bit of an upper body workout as well.

Or just walking everywhere you need to go can be very beneficial.

Jogging outside. When you are moving over uneven terrain, you use more muscles.
Machines do some of the work for you and are boring compared to the change of scenery that jogging provides.BTW,I use a treadmill when I am not outside. ;) Guess where I would rather be

I prefer low impact workouts, jogging is too hard on my knees so I cycle a lot or rather will be now all the snow has gone…. I’ve been using a stepper over the holidays to try to keep me going & I’m still using the free weights too & the punch bag to get the blood moving & sweat pouring….. I have a rower too & do a lot of floor exercises, push ups, sit ups etc… :-/

Variations of all of these would be best,
It keeps your muscles guessing,
thus avoiding a plataeu when
your body adjusts to one form of exercise..

Essentially though, allare great ways to get in
a good cardio workout, you can push yourself
doing any of these, and vary the exercise within itself.
