Which class schedule would you take?

Asked by chelle21689 (7907points) January 3rd, 2011

I have biology and statistics…I picked my teachers that had very good reviews on ratemyprofessor.com so I can have a good teacher in these hard classes.Anyways, I forgot to pay fees so I was dropped and was unable to join back because they were all full and had to find new classes.

My new schedule

Monday- Statistics 11:00am-12:50pm
Tuesday- Biology 9am-10:50am
Wednesday- Statistics 11:00am-12:50pm
Thursday- Biology 9am-10:50am
Friday- Statistics 11:00am-12:50pm

I like my stat teacher, I haven’t met my Biology teacher but she seems strict and has OKAY reviews. I’m afraid to switch because I might make it worse for me…but this has more days and shorter hours

OLD schedule that I first chose with two teachers with very good ratings
Monday: Biology 10am-12:50
Tuesday: Statistics 9am-11:00am
Wednesday: Biology 10am-12:50
Thursday: Statistics 9am-12:50
Friday: none

I would like to go back to my old schedule since it has fewer days, I’m just afraid I won’t like my math teacher as much as the one I have now because I hear statistics is very hard. Both math teachers have good reviews though. My current Biology teacher has a DECENT review but my first choice had a good review.

It is kind of a toss up. The things I cared about in college was no class before 9:00, both schedules have that. Also, I think I had very few semesters that actually had 5 days a week? But, if I really liked a prof, I would have done it. If I did not know either prof and was just going on reveiws, and both had decent reviews, I would go for the preferable schedule.

About stats, I am a math person, and stats was a little difficult for me. I do think liking your stat teacher is important. Biology not as much. At least that is how I would presonally look at it. But, biology is easy for me to pick up.

Eh, I just didn’t like seeing all the essays I’m going to have to write for Bio _!!

@chelle21689 One Bio professor requires more writing than the other? I must have missed that in your description. Maybe that decides it then.

I would take the old schedule if I had a choice. The thing is, do you have a choice? You said you can’t get back into those classes.

Based on my previous experiences as a student and my current experiences as a teaching assistant, I recommend going to your originally scheduled classes. At the end of the first session, explain to your professors that you were accidentally dropped from their classes (tell the truth if they ask how you were dropped) and that you would still very much like to take their classes. You do not need to tell them about why you don’t want to take the alternative sections with different professors. For all they need to know, the others don’t fit your schedule.

Given the fact that people drop classes all the time, almost any professor will be willing to help you out. I got into every class I ever requested this way as an undergraduate, and I’ve never had to deny any student who has made this request as a teacher. That said, this is not a guarantee. I’ve heard of people not getting into classes when they tried this. Still, it is worth a try.

Really, I’m unsure how my first pick teaches because I haven’t seen it, I just know that people like him as a teacher. I haven’t met my current biology teacher yet though =\

Is this a community college?

I, for one, feel that I can pretty much take any class at my school with any teacher and pass it, but if you don’t feel that way about yours I’d go ahead and take the better teacher, especially with the shorter math class, even if it is 3 days a week.
Provided those are the only 2 classes you’re taking you’ll probably be fine grade wise either way, but if you like to speak up and be active in class the teacher may make a big difference. For me, though, the teacher isn’t usually as important as the class time and day.
