Which area has more pollution?
The city or the country?
I know the answer must seem obvious the city for most of you.
But in the city, most people take public transportation, which reduces emissions from cars, and in the country, almost every has to drive a car, which would produce more emissions unless you have a solar car or a hybrid, which everyone doesn’t.

The city because while yes there is more public transportation, that is also where the factories are located at and where more people are using hair spray and the things that get into the environment.
It depends on how you define “pollution”. A lot of rural areas have huge pollution problems from farm runoff, overuse and poor practices used in fertilizer, herbicide and pesticide use, for example.
Superfund sites can occur seemingly at random nearly anywhere in the country. Your nice new housing development could have been built over the Love Canal, for example.
A lot of unregulated dumping also occurs at various places in the country, too.
Ground water contamination can go undetected for many years in rural areas where people use well water and don’t test it. Metropolitan drinking water suppliers generally have very well-managed filtration and disinfection systems (not to mention “detection”) to find and counteract harmful agents in water, or at least to recognize when problems occur and warn the public and/or shut down the system.
So it’s a hard question to answer.
The city, Mexico City is the worlds worst. it’s no. 1.
Don’t forget about noise pollution and light pollution. I live smack in the middle of downtown Toronto, and it’s never ever quiet. I haven’t seen a star since I moved here in July.
Here’s an admittedly unscientific but simple way you can decide for yourself.
Where would you expect to see the most stars at night? In the city or the country?
I live in the country with very clear skies and can easily see the Milky Way.
In the city, the only way you can see a Milky Way is if you are standing in front of a candy counter.
It depends. In our area, the prevailing winds blow all of the city pollution into the foothills, where the country side exceeds the pollution standards. They can’t possibly cut back on anything, so they are penalized for other people’s pollution.
