Do you wash your hands before/after going to the bathroom?

Asked by coffeenut (6174points) January 5th, 2011

Does your location affect if you do or not ie: in the woods, in your house, in your friends/family house, at a mall, at a concert, at a restaurant…ect

Do you decide differently depending on # 1, 2, or 3

What do you do if there isn’t a sink/cleanup area available?

Always after, sometimes before.

Well at home I don’t do it as often. Unless I’m going to be working with food or eating. But if I am at a public place, always always always. Even in the woods(: If there is no sink or anything, at least find a water bottle.

I always wash my hands after going to the bathroom. If there’s no sink or something, I’m very careful not to touch my face afterward, at least until I can get to a sink or some sanitizer.

What in hell is a #3?

Oh yes always, very fastidious in the cleanliness department.

I always wash my hands after if at all possible, and I avoid going if there is no means for doing so available. I never feel clean after using hand sanitizer, despite knowing perfectly well that it works, so I will only use it when there are no other options. In the absence of a sink or other cleanup area, I try to minimize how much I have to use my hands for anything and then become incredibly conscious of them until I get a chance to wash.

One winter when my apartment lost water service, I melted snow to have something with which to wash my hands. I cannot even express how tempted I was to use my supply of potable water instead, though reason won out in the end.

Not everytime, that’s ridiculous and doesn’t seem necessary. I’m very clean and I don’t see the point of washing my hands 40 minutes after I got out of the shower just because I’m out of my house. Most establishments I’m in are clean, if I was in a really dirty city, yes.

Yes yes, if one has been ‘on the throne’, but not just for pee pees. you just walk out and touch the door handles anyway.

I always wash my hands, and if I’m in a public restroom I’ll use a paper towel to open the door. If there aren’t paper towels, I’ve been known to kick open the door or use my foot to open it. It freaks me out to think that some people don’t wash their hands and then touch the door handle, which makes my hands all gross again! (I’m slightly twitchy when it comes to cleanliness and situations like this).

Most people don’t want to touch the handle when exiting. Many businesses have addressed this issue by installing foot operated door openers (i.e. StepNpull). StepNpull gives you the option of pulling the door open with your foot instead of touching the handle.

I always wash my hands after using the bathroom, and I carry antibacterial hand gel in my bag.

@Arbornaut Not washing your hands after urinating is a great way to spread influenza. And those door handles are only filthy because people find ways to rationalize not washing their hands. No circular reasoning!

(Also, there are ways to avoid touching the handles. Use a paper towel or push the door open with your foot if @67Chevy2‘s StepNpull isn’t available.)
