What are they playing on the FM radio stations?

Asked by john65pennington (29273points) January 6th, 2011

Nashville has at least 30 different AM and FM radio stations. I took 30 minutes of my time to see if I could locate a station that I could listen to and enjoy its music. I searched and what did I find? Zero, zip, naught, nothing. Is it just me or are these radio stations all sending out junk music over the airwaves? I did not hear one song I could associate with. I am not a fan of country music, so that only left pop rock or crock or whatever they call it. I finally gave up and slipped in a 70s cd of love songs, sat back and relaxed. Is it just my older age or am I not alone in my FM dial search for good music that use to be there?

Are you SIRIUS? I never listen to am/fm radio stations anymore. Even if you found a good station they play the same playlist over and over, AND OVER again…

The times, they’re a-changin’.

I don’t know anymore. I use CD’s exclusively and have been for a long time. I think at a certain age people will fall back on the tunes they grew up with and reject most of the current material. That and all the ads.

Here in Seattle, we have a variety of stuff available on FM. You want classic rock? How classic are we talking; 60s, 70s, 80s, or 90s? Gawd, the ‘90s are classic already! Country? Techno/electronica? News talk?

Of course, that lack of quality radio is yet another reason I would never move to the South. Then again, I usually use my phone to stream internet radio (same digital quality as Satellite without the added subscription fees) through my car stereo and thus don’t deal with FM much anymore anyways… though I am usually tuned to internet simulcasts of local FM stations.
