Are you Pro or Con "Inception"?

Asked by bookwoman11 (250points) January 7th, 2011

As someone who enjoys a film that’s unique and requires some thought, I went to see Inception in the theatre based upon reviews and recommendations from friends. Much to my surprise, I detested it. (Thank God I did not drag my 11-yr-old along, which I had actually considered doing!) I’m pretty savvy and usually figure out a twist or a mystery ahead of the curve. In the case of this film, however, I left without a clue what had really happened and worse, I couldn’t have cared less. Am I right in my evaluation that this is either a love-it-or-hate-it film? And which category do you fall into?

I really liked it. Maybe top ten movies list for myself. It is very confusing though and takes a lot of focus, and/or multiple viewings. The ending was a disappointment, but only because I later found out online that there were clues as that tell what actually had happened, and I’d almost rather it remain ambiguous.

Good call on the 11 year old though. No way a child would really like the movie for anything past action scenes.

It was pretty easy to understand for me; I loved it.

I loved it, every time I’ve seen it I’ve come out with a new idea of what the hell was actually going on.

But when it comes to Nolan’s thinker flicks, Memento still takes the cake.

I don’t get hung up on films in which the only payoff comes with some twist or head scratching ending. They’re gimmicky.
Inception was a fine tuned, beautifully crafted film which has a strong enough story moving forward to avoid this.

You’re not right about it being a love it or hate it movie – but it is close. ;-) It’s really one of those movies it’s easy to love or hate, but I think there’s a lot of inbetween.

I liked inception. It was pretty to look at. So is Joseph Gordon-Levitt and that Star Trek: Nemesis guy. ;-)

But, I just liked it. I don’t really need to see it again any time soon.

I don’t care for it. I’m kinda anti-ambiguous ending, though.

It went straight over my head so, unfortunately, I was bored. Also, it made me realise that I find Leonardo Dicaprio to be a very boring uninspiring to watch.

@Leanne1986 You didn’t know that from Titanic? I mean, assuming you were born in 1986 (cuz of your sn), I KNOW you saw that shit…

@papayalily My parents forced me to go with the movies with them to watch that, I was 6 for crying out loud. imagine the misery I went through. lol

@Winters Had you been a few years older, the boob scene would have been awesome. But yeah, that’s pretty much torture.

Winters's avatar

@papayalily no, I’m not complaining at all about the boob scene, I had already seen a porno or part of one by the time I was 6 (babysitter failed to stop little curious old Winters from toying around with the remote our cable tv, though in her defense she was studying for finals in the kitchen I do believe while I was in the family room).

@papayalily I was 12 when Titanic came out and was (still am) fascinated with the tragedy of sunken ships. I remember being very pissed off that the love story overshadowed the sad beauty of the ship I mean, how Hollywood!. Dicaprio totally stole Titanics thunder if you ask me and to this day the OTT love story in Titanic annoys me. The old couple on the bed, the mother reading to her children and the captain choosing to go down with the ship move me far more than Dicaprio and Winslet chasing each other around the decks.

Sorry, got a bit carried away there. To cut a long story short @papayalily yes, I knew he was a boring actor from Titanic.

You know, I think it’d be pretty neat if they combined the game Contra with Incept… oh wait, that already exists.
