What can I do to ease my worries?

It’s official. I just felt my first earthquake. It was small (4.1) and far away but I felt the shaking at my desk, as did the kitties.
I am going to be away for a week and a half and I’m leaving the cats home. I have been worried about leaving them but now I’m more concerned. I have some friends watching them while I’m gone and have made a deal that one of them will get the cats if there’s an earthquake and I’m not here.
What else can I do to ease my worries? I’m scared

Accept that you are powerless over when and where the earth decides to move, and give your kitties a big hug before you leave.
Being there during an earthquake does not guarantee that your kitties will be safe. Like @hawaii_jake said you are powerless over when and where the earth decides to move. Hence, it is important to live and love as if it were your last moments on earth.
Don’t worry, be happy!
Move somewhere where zero risks exist. Oh, wait, there are things that can kill you everywhere. Best to just be fearless.
Deal with it- you must not have lived in earthquake country very long! After long enough, you’ll just say, “Huh, that was an earthquake.” and go on with life!
Get cat carriers for your cats and set them in an accessible place (hall closet). Tell your pet sitter where they are so they can get the cats out quickly if something happens.
The odds of a ‘cat’-a-strophic earthquake in the next few weeks are probably slim. Having a friend to care for them while you are gone and available for emergency arrangements is fine.
Unless this is the precursor to the next ‘big one.’
Teasing, relax, it’ll be fine. ;-)
@Coloma: ha, thanks! Do you guys feel the quakes up by you ever? A move to Tahoe may be in order…
Just to make yourself feel better you can leave the cat carriers under a study table with the doors open. Put a toy in each one. If there was ever a disaster the cats will find it and have a cozy place to hide.
Don’t watch the dumb movie “2012”.
@worriedguy: the only table I have is not sturdy, it’s what was shaking today. This apartment isn’t very earthquake friendly. :/ newbie here. That’s a good idea though, I will leave them in the bathroom maybe.
@Samantha_Rae
Once in awhile. But, Iived in San Diego for 5 years once upon a time, man…a few quakes had me running for the door. lol
