Can someone help me to fix my laptop's audio?

Asked by Your_Majesty (8238points) January 8th, 2011

I don’t know what’s wrong with my laptop’s sound system since it’s not in mute state but it won’t produce any sound no matter how high the volume I set. It appears that some of my friends have used it and probably caused something in it but for some reason I can’t contact them in a moment. I’ve checked the ‘sound and audio devices icon’ from control panel and it seems normal as usual without any mute checks.

I’ve no idea what should I do next since I can still hear a sound from it yesterday so I think it’s not like my laptop’s sound system is being damaged or else.

I really hope someone can tell me how to fix this situation.

well you can try reinstalling the sound driver.

What kind of laptop is it? Mine has a mute button on the escape button but you have to press Function (FN) key with it for it to respond. Maybe that has been pressed accidentally?

Are you trying to use the internal speakers or a plug in type…?

Right-Click your volume icon on the bottom right corner (default) and Open Volume Control. The window will be called Master Volume. If you never messed with it, you should only see Master Volume, so go to options a properties window should pop up and at the bottom is a box that says show the following volume controls and check the box that says wave, once that is checked hit ok. A new option should pop up beside Master Volume that says Wave make sure that is unmuted and that it is up be careful as wave makes your current volume louder!. Hopefully that works.

Yep, @PocketWatch is right. There have been quite a few times where my regular volume controls have been cranked and yet I didn’t have sound because one of the other sliders in Volume Control was all the way down.

If we knew what type of computer you have and what OS you’re using, that would really help us help you.

My father’s MacBook had a similar-sounding issue. I fixed it by doing the things suggested here and in the link in the last post on that page.
