Help I'm having trouble with my Crosley CD recorder.

I have a Crosley CD recorder. It records LP or cassette tapes to CD. When I’m recording from cassette tapes I get a squelching that occurs randomly and transfers to the recording. If I stop the cassette and restart, usually takes a couple of attempts, it will stop. Anyone experience this and have any suggestions?
