Can time machine restore dot files?

Asked by andrew (16562points) April 10th, 2008

I overwrote a .foo file this evening and I’d like to restore it. Unfortunately, the time machine interface doesn’t show any dot files. Any experience with this?

I’m assuming you’ve turned off hidden files via the defaults preference? I didn’t know that time machine continued to hide them. You could browse the archives on the drive manually? Just dig through, choose the folder with the date to restore to, and find the file in question.

I actually hadn’t done that, since I edit my dot files via terminal.

For future reference:

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
killall finder
