I’m a film major which means I spend a lot of time watching movies I have to watch intently in order to properly digest but I’m often tempted to play Tetris Angry Birds and other distracting games If I don’t I find myself cracking my fingers about every ten minutes which can’t be good for my joints I’m one of those people that cracks each finger about 5 times, so Since I’m viewing films upwards of 15 hours a week I reckon I ought to be able to turn that time into some sort of positive something
I’ve considered knitting but it doesn’t really appeal to me Sometimes I just squeeze a stress ball Get tired of that pretty quick
Does anyone have any ideas of some good work I could put my hands to while 1 Not paying too much attention 2 Sitting in the dark and 3 Remaining silent

You could try sitting on your hands or gripping the chair arms.
When I was six my mum put socks on my hands because I had poison ivy. It kept me from scratching.
Shuffle a deck of cards? or do spiny things with a pen or coin through the fingers?
Chinese finger traps?
Do you know how to do that pen roll thing people do over their knuckles. It’s hard to learn and all muscle motion.
I’ve started working with hand weights while watching television.
Can you use an exercise peddler? If your feet are busy, perhaps your hands will be still.
You could try making a spiral friendship bracelet thing. It’s really repetitive you you won’t have to ever look down at it so you can still pay attention to the film.
Work on your grip with one of these things or learn some basic guitar chords while watching films maybe?
Take up knitting or crocheting.
I have the same problem I also must crack everything else I can’t just stay sitting for too long with nothing to do. I do suggest knitting or do toothpick lifting. Get a toothpick and gummy bears. First it might be hard for those without finger muscles so only put one gummy bear on each side of the toothpick, then pick up the toothpick with one finger and your thumb and lift as if you were lifting dumbbells. Once your fingers get better, try adding another two gummy bears in. Its a great workout. It’s alot harder than it sounds…
drawing pictures in a notebook
There is actually nothing wrong with cracking your joints. It is just a release of gas build up. It’s as natural as burping.
I love my loopy koosh ball. No idea where I got it though. :(
You could make sculptures with wire (paper clips) or putty/ clay (blu-tac works well too). If you don’t want them to look like anything in particular you don’t have to look at what you are doing.
I had the opposite problem: I had to play with my special silly putty after wrist surgery, and I found it boring so I’d put a movie on. Get some silly putty!
