Do you believe that bad things always happen in three's ? Or maybe there are just coincidences?
Maybe it’s a way for someone to explain…

Welcome to Fluther. Bad things don’t always happen in threes. We just take notice of three things that happen in a row.
Welcome to Fluther.
I, like @marinelife, feel that what we notice or pay attention to is what we build into our life stories. Bad things happen but then so do good things. We perceive patterns where there really aren’t any.
A string of bad luck is possible but then so is a string of good luck. We are more likely to remember the string of bad luck though.
So Sarah Palin is one of triplets? Oh, what a world…what a world!
Bad things seem to happen in twos for me and friday the 13th is always a lucky day. Go figure?
We’ve been conditioned over time to believe this, and so we tend to do so, even though part of us (part me me, anyway) knows it’s only coincidence.
Ever have to wear a cast and suddenly you seeing people everywhere with casts on? It’s kind of like that. We see what we’re focused on.
I think it’s because when one bad thing happens we expect another and another and then we believe we’re free from it. Being in a state of paranoid awareness can almost make you cause bad things to happen to yourself.
One bad event can throw you mentally out of kilter making a second more likely. After three you just retreat to bed until it all blows over.
You know…I didn’t think they did. BUT, let me tell you a little story. My daughter broke her foot the week I went back to work in August…that SAME week, I broke my ankle (on the same foot) AND my car started throwing a fit leading to it’s eventual demise…in light of this, I would have to say YES, most DEFINITELY! Also, a couple of my family members have had bad things happen to them in threes and when it was happening to them I said…nah…just a coincidence…but I really believe now, that it has happened to me….bad things happen in threes.
I don’t believe bad things happen in three, but when three really shitty things happen all at once, I try to tell myself that will be the end of it, and things should start turning around.
I don’t believe in coincidences, nor do I believe bad things happens in threes.
