Are there comedians of 20 or more years ago that you miss?
I miss Jonathan Winters, and if you want to go even farther back, I miss Red Skelton.
What about you? Do you miss anyone in particular?

In addition to most of those mentioned above, there was Jack Benny (a master of timing), Sid Caesar (his fabulous company included Carl Reiner, Howie Morris and Imogene Coco), Abbott and Costello (silly but very funny—best movie: “A&C Meet Frankenstein”), Martin and Lewis (for several years, the most popular and highest paid comedy team in the world), Nichols and May (one of the most sophisticated comedy duos ever), and Bob and Ray (listen to their classic “Slow Talkers of America” routine). Oh, and there was Milton Berle (Uncle Miltie) and Jackie Gleason (Ralph Kramden).
I know he’s alive, but I’ve not heard of him working in years, either on TV or stand up:
Bob Newhart
Carol Burnett and her gang: Harvey Korman, Vicki Lawrence, Lyle Waggoner and Tim Conway.
Carol’s parody of Gone With the Wind, when she descends the staircase wearing the green velvet curtains (including the brass rod) is engraved on my funny bone.
@hawaii_jake: I just laughed as hard as I did the first time I saw this. Thank you. They had a successful tradition on that show of improvising in order to make the other cast members break up on live camera.
“I love what you’ve done with the place.”
Richard Pryor. and Johnny Carson. and Flip Wilson
bob Hope
Danny Kaye
Peter Sellers
Smothers Bros – still living, but no longer performing
@gailcalled I loved Tim Conway i Carol’s show. He did a skit where he injected himself with novocaine and still tried to be a dentist. I do’t know if I’d laugh seeing it now but I’m laughing in my head.
Eric and Ernie pure comedy gold, and who can forget their theme tune to this day it makes me smile :-) just wonderful.
Dave Allen “Goodnight, and may your God go with you” A wonderful, wonderful man, sadly gathered, and dearly missed.
Rikki Fulton an absolute legend, and anyone of a certain age in Scotland will smile if you even mention him. Waiting all year long for his Hogmanay special, hang new year, we patiently waited all evening to tune in to see Rikki as our favourite characters, such as supercop this is one of my favourites, it has him playing alongside the amazing Mark McManus. Scottish jellies will already have smiled at the mention of his name, best known for playing the best Scottish tv cop ever, Taggart, another wonderful, sweet, generous, lovely man, also sadly taken from us too soon.
Ronnie Barker watched two episodes of “Open All Hours” last night, both filmed over 35 years ago now, and still better than most comedies made now. Wonderful, just wonderful.
@faye I watch that clip on youtube when I need a laugh. It cracks me up every time!
Laurel and Hardy. Me and my dad were actually watching one of their movies last night and it was just so funny.
Yes, Sam Kinison. He was awesome! I guess its only been 19 years though.
