Can a NAS cause wireless router issues?

Asked by metadog (381points) January 11th, 2011

Hi! I have a Netgear RangeMax Wireless N Router. I have a 2002 Dell P4 Desktop in my kitchen with a new Netgear USB wireless antenna, a HP laptop and a Moto Droid all accessing the web wirelessly. I have a Mac and a Western Digital NAS hard wired to the router. Lately the Dell and the HP have been sporadically dropping the wireless signal (hard to tell on the Droid). I want to point my finger at the new NAS, but I don’t know enough about it to know if it can cause problems like this. Any thoughts? Thanks!

You may want to assign static IP addresses to each of your devices and reserve those IP addresses on your DHCP server. Create a block of IP adresses that dynamic wifi clients can use. This will prevent IP address conflicts.
