Do you ever consider leaving Fluther when things go wrong?

Asked by BoBo1946 (15325points) January 12th, 2011

I’ve left it once before (my Irish ways caused that).... now, I’ve so many very good friends here and they always keep me grounded when things go wrong. Today, was a bad day on Fluther. That is okay… life is not always easy. For whatever reason, everyone doesn’t love you. Cannot see why not, but it’s what it’s. Well, anyway Sadie loves me.

Truth of the matter, I would never attack anyone…. but, I will never run from a fight. wish i could…just not my MO!

Do you have days when you want to hit the delete button? Be honest… don’t “sugar coat it!”

I’ve never felt the need to leave. I love it here.

@Leanne1986 me too… but, today was a very bad day.

@BoBo1946 Sorry to hear that :( I hope it’s getting better for you or, if not today, tomorrow will be an improvement.

Seaofclouds's avatar

I’ve yet to feel that way, but I rarely get into fights on here, so that’s probably why so far.

Can’t say I have. Hope you feel better soon!

Yes….but it may not be of my own accord….lol

Nope. I can always step away from the computer for awhile, and when I come back there are more questions and discussions and whatever bothered me is yesterday’s news.

Lightlyseared's avatar

Nope. I’m too argumentative to walk away.

@BoBo1946 : I’m sorry to hear you had a bad day. Just think. You get a new day to do it all fresh tomorrow.

No, I’ve never left Fluther. There are plenty of questions I steer clear of. Some topics just aren’t for me, because I really can’t handle mean-spirited confrontation.

I can imagine being driven away, but so far that’s just been imagination.

No, except for an hour or two at a time, to relax. I considered leaving so I could get back to my charity work, but I have reached a compromise by spending a lot less time here.

Not yet. There have been a couple of instances where I’ve gotten angry and had to do something else for a while, and there’s one person who seems bent on contradicting me, but that’s not enough to make me want to leave.

I am sorry that you had a bad Fluther day @BoBo1946!

Walk away from the thread not the site.

We love you, guy!

I think I’m too lazy to get in fights these days, but I’m glad you still have the passion in you, @BoBo1946! I’ll have to research now.

JLeslie's avatar

There’s nothing on Fluther that could ruin my day, let alone run me off.

Thank you for the kind words. Thank you!!! I’m 64 years old… God has given me so many days on this Earth. As i walk alone and face the many problems on my daily walk, I always try to be what God wants me to be. I’m not very good at sometimes… I fail in so many ways. I often say the wrong thing, think the wrong thing, and respond the wrong way. Today, if I said anything to offend or hurt one of my fellowmen, a brother or a sister, please forgive me. I’m a very sensitive and caring man. My heart is heavy tonight and forgive me if I a little emotional, but the recent events in Az has hurt us all. My President tonight ask each of us to be more kind in our rhetoric and discourse with our brothers and sisters and I felt like he was talking to me. I will do better. I love you all. Goodnite.

omg, I am 66 in a couple more days. When I walk the dogs in the morning, my main concern is if the old dog is going to make it home or if I am going to have to carry all 70 odd pounds of him. The world is full of people with opinions and a lot of them are different from mine. The thing to remember is to say something once is great, to say it a second time is to reiterate but when I start saying it over and over again, it is a control thing, I am trying to force my feelings down someone else’s throat and that is not a good thing. The smart people know when to shut up and get out and let someone else do the high school debate routine.

BoBo1946's avatar

Opinions that are different are not a problem, it’s how people express their differences that count. President Obama addressed that last night in Tuscon. I think the tragedy in Az should make us all aware of how we speak to our fellowman. After all, we are all brothers and sisters.

I’ve never felt the need to walk away.

As far as getting into it with someone here: You gotta know when to hold ‘em, know when to fold ‘em, know when to walk away, know when to run.

It’s not worth it, for me, to be combative. I tend to let it slide.

I know that it’s not in your nature, Bobo, but, you should have just dropped it. See how ugly it got? Was it worth it?

Fairylover78's avatar

Nope. I Lurve everyboday and I think a nice heated conversation is good for the soul, but I usually try to be understanding….. usually.

no sugar coating

it’s a website….it’s easy TO STAY…when things go wrong

and I DO understand that you have real, true friendships here

but it’s also EASY to “hide”...cause it’s ONLINE :)

which is the beauty of online groups and those particular friendships

don’t leave it….be strong

Crossroadsgrl's avatar

that being said, I’ve been on another website 10 years and now get together on vacations with the people on the original board

so Im not downplaying the importance of the relationships

just…don’t leave it…you can even leave the ROOM, but don’t have to leave it

@BoBo1946 I’ll second that. We need a bit more Irish in here.
