What to do stuck in a hotel room during a blizzard?

Asked by coffeenut (6174points) January 12th, 2011

So….I couldn’t justify the risks associated with driving home during the storm we are getting….so I got a hotel for the night…
I don’t have my computer with me so I can’t work….I can only be on the balcony for a short time because of the storm and because I’m acrophobic…..I can’t leave and come back too much…the elevator ride gives me Barophobia…. So I’m stuck in my room…....

I have my phone….so anyone know any interesting sites?

Project Gutenberg, if accessible from your phone, would give you hours of reading enjoyment.

Or, if you felt up to it, you could purposely stand on the balcony in a Rooseveltian attempt to conquer your own acrophobia.

If you’ve got a tv, I hear there’s a good program on Jeff Bridges on PBS tonight.

where is there a blizzard now? just curious.

i live in NY and our storm was last night, overnight. we also had major snow last friday, and 12/26 so i feel we have had enough snow to take us till about March. Enough already!

skyline sucks, but that’s my opinion. Otherwise, sleep, workout, room service and pig out, porn, choke the chicken…

Let the front desk know that you have a problem with riding the elevator and ask if they could send up some magazines. Then take a nice long hot bubble bath. Then have the front desk send up a nice bottle of wine and some cheese.

If you are scared of the elevator, then you can take the stairs down. There must be stairs because they are needed in a fire emergency. You can go down to the lobby and sit around observing people. Maybe you can meet someone new. Does the hotel have a bar or other public gathering place? Is there a giftshop at the hotel? Maybe you can buy a book or magazine or other activity item. Do you have paper and a pen? Maybe you can write letters or start a journal. You can takes notes on what you observe in the lobby! Check out the hotel and see what kinds of services and amenities it offers. Does it have a gym?

@answerjill I totally forgot about people watching. I love doing that. They might also have a computer in the lobby that you can use.

@Winters you were right…it sucked….How they change was cool though…

@answerjill walking down, then walking back up 10 floors of stairs doesn’t sound fun….lol

But ya thanks for all the great ideas everyone…...yay storms over….

Phone up room service and DEMAND that they make it stop snowing. No matter how reasonably they explain to you that they can’t control the weather, don’t take no for an answer. Let them know that you are on to them. The snow is just one of their clever little corporate tricks to keep you spending money. Let them know that if they don’t compensate you in pillow mints that you will sue them.

Lol @poisonedantidote what a great idea…one pillowmint per snow flake…...
