Trials or ordeals. Trial by fire, ordeal by water.. aka drowning or burning.

I guess ordeal. Is that it? Or were the names more creative? Lol

The creativity emerged in the methods of torture.

Do you mean the American witch trials that resulted in some two dozen deaths — and were halted by religious leaders, or the European witch trials that resulted in 100,000 deaths? The Floating Test and The Lord’s Prayer Test are the two I can remember off the top of my head.

Appsremtly it is officially, Trial by Ordeal. Many nasty ones I neglected to mention.

You see if they weigh the same as a duck.

They are no such thing as a witch. They are nut cases that say they are, but they are not.
Anyone that says anything to the contrary is living in a fairy tale.

@Roby: We are talking about historical reality and not the present. There were decades of allegations and ordeals relating to witches, heathens, non-Christians, traitors, spies and irritating neighbors. Check out the history of the Inquisition or the Salem Witch Trials.

(All those “they’s” in your answer are confusing.)
