Can I send a private picture on Facebook?

Asked by ladyv900 (713points) January 14th, 2011

It’s nothing explicit, sexual or anything, just a family photo I want to send and i don’t want all my Facebook friends or followers all in my buisness like for say; “Vanessa just sent a photo”.

I don’t know if it can be done, but I will say that anything sent on line is never kept private for long. Unless its your mom or something like that, you can trust that at some point someone may send it to someone else and it get passed along.

You definitely can send a picture to someone on Facebook by using their email. I do it often. It will remain private as long as you don’t post it on the person’s wall.

No, you can’t do attachments, if you posted it on another site you could send a link to that, by Private message, if you wanted to do it discreetly.

if you are tagged in it by you or the recipient, it can end up showing on your profile. I’d send the picture via private email if at all possible.

You can just send it in a Facebook email. I send photos that way all the time.
Or you can make a separate album with the privacy settings arranged so that only the people that you want to see the photo are able to.

@TheOnlyNeffie is facebook e-mail possible? i thought you could only Private message?

I didn’t realise there was much of a difference.
You can certainly send images to someone’s inbox on Facebook. Whether they are considered emails or PMs, I’m not sure.

@TheOnlyNeffie but can you send files as attachments, be it an jpg file, pdf, mp3, zip or whatever?

No, you can embed an image. I’m not very tech savvy, you might be asking the wrong person.

I only have one thought to give. remember, that anything that goes into cyberspace can be trapped and copied. facebook is no exception. i have discovered many viruses on facebook. each time to visit their site, i receive and have to clean out visurses. i would have second thoughts, before i sent a private anything on facebook.
