What extra precautions should I take whilst transporting my HDs?

Asked by Anatelostaxus (1428points) January 15th, 2011

I travel a lot and need my external hard drives with me.
I’m thinking about producing my own, home made waterproof, amortised coats for them.
What materials would you suggest?
And, of course, What other options would you advise?

Look for anti-static bubble wrap. Regular plastic generates really high voltage static, which can zap the electronics in your drive. The magnetic data would be mostly intact after a zap, but no electronics, no data output.
