What does it mean when you dream about the same person every night?

Asked by Mischiv (40points) January 17th, 2011

For about a month and a half now I’ve been dreaming about a friend of mine. He’s always the main part of my dream but it’s almost never the same dream twice. Even the way he’s in my dreams varies. Sometimes we’re just hanging out, sometimes we’re in a relationship (which also varies from dating to married and the married ones are kind of weird), and last night we were walking around the school and I gave him my number. Although I do like spending time with him outside of my dreams, anything more than friendship would be awkward; so I know that I’m not like, in love with him or anything.

It means that a part of you wonders what it would be like to have a relationship with him.

@FutureMemory may right, but it’s equally possible you’re dreaming about him because part of you doesn’t want a relationship. At any rate, dreaming about him is a bit of a vicious cycle because everytime you dream about him and then think about the dream you’re likely to dream about him again.

It means you owe me money.;)

It doesn’t mean anything that you don’t want it to. Once you accept that your subconscious self is different to your conscious self (and, by extension don’t draw parallels between the people portrayed in your dreams and their waking personas) then there’s really no conflict.

If you’re having lots of dreams about this friend, it simply means that he’s on your mind a lot and your brain is trying to simplify what you’re thinking into images that it thinks you might understand.

In other words, I’m sure you’ll take away what you want to from these dreams (which is as it’s meant to be) but, dreams being what they are, shouldn’t inform your waking life relationship with anyone.

It’s not about your friend at all. Rather, it’s about what your friend stands for in your mind or in your self. Not a lover, but a friend. You are trying to get yourself to pay attention to something related to the transition between friend and lover, or some part of yourself that you are confused about whether you like it or love it.

Ummm last night I dreamt that my brothers girlfriend opened a package (?!???) of ham and there was a free gun at the bottom! Maybe don’t try to make too much meaning out of your dreams :)

It means you have that person on your mind enough for you to think about him while dreaming. He may then become part of the dream, even though the dream may have nothing to do with the person.

I feel that @wundayatta @Austinlad @FutureMemory more or less hit it or are in the generally correct area.

@lucillelucillelucille that answer seems oddly familiar…

I’m with @PhiNotPi It means you have that person on your mind enough for you to think about him while dreaming. He may then become part of the dream, even though the dream may have nothing to do with the person.)
