Who are the game changing psychologists of today?

Asked by 6rant6 (13705points) January 18th, 2011

I am looking for people whose ideas will be the basis for the next generation’s work. Who are today’s Freud and Jung? Why is their work groundbreaking?

@talljasperman I’ll assume you’re serious.

No, I’m looking for someone who has offered something to the theory of psychology. I’m guessing tomorrow’s psychology won’t be based on sound bites. Please God, no!

I actually think that the fusion of philosophy and psychology along with the scientific advances of neuroscience will lead the way in terms of psychological practices. However, I’m only just coming into this field so I have limited knowledge at the moment. I would really like to think that I could really break some ground in the years to come… you never know.

However, I recently watched a talk on “Fora” about Emmanuel Levinas mixing philosophical concepts of Inter-subjectivity with psychological concepts… it was quite interesting…. I couldn’t possibly explain it all here… but it places Ethics at the forefront of questions we must answer. Here is a paper on Levinas and this is the talk….

I’m not sure I agree with everything that is said here though…I think Donna Orange is too quick to dismiss the self – the purely subjective self in favour of a diminished ego in light of the ‘Other’... but would be interested to see what other’s think…

boy that was taxing…it’s only 6am!

Marsha M Linehan [U Washington], Dialectical Behavior Therapy
Aaron T Beck [emeritus, U Penn] and David D. Burns [Stanford], Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
changed the entire way of conducting psychotherapy from an insight-based” model to a behavioral modification model.
