Well, I think it would be easier to answer the question “how is the US like ancient Rome?”
To that question, nothing comes to mind.
In the US we dont have unstable emperors; one canceled a battle and had his army collect sea shells instead. Nero had his mother exicuted.
no lead pipes to poison you.
Nero also slept w. his sister, impregnated her and then klled her w. a sword.
Here the people in power torture or destroy their enemies more subtly, for the most part, except for waterboarding. And everyone considers W stable? (bring it on.)
None of us (except gailcalled) speak Latin.
Vos es falsidicus. Check out cwilbur, swmorgan, and Hoss. (if they are still around after the past few days.)
America is a nation founded on an idea, rather than on an ethnic group.
Had to turn on my computer instead of just using an iphone on this question. Also had to think about it over night. Good question. First, we live in the day of media where no news is sacred nor really secret. The American govt could hide lies only for so long before we found out the truth. An example was Bush and the excuse of Weapons of Mass Distruction to start war. Another fundamental difference would be several other countries depend on the US for support in economic and social aspects. China, Japan, and Europe economies are tied to us not only in using the US dollar as standard but also swings of economies ie when our economies is shitty they suffer as well. China especially is dependent on us economically because we are a major purchaser of their products ie Walmart. Why this is important is unlike Rome where all the other major powers wanted Rome to fall, all the current major powers realize (though they won’t offically recognize) that we are all dependent on each other for survival and prevention of another Great Depression.
