Anyone seen Somewhere (the movie)?

Yeah. The recent debut of Sofia Coppola featuring Stephen Dorff & Elle Fanning. If so, how was the cadence, the material, the character dimensionality? I’ve ridden the fence on a lot of Sofia’s movies but they always have pretty good soundtracks to say the least. Thinking about seeing it.

Personally, I love her movies. This movie is a departure from her other movies in that she doesn’t use music and color as part of her storytelling tools, at least not to the extent of say Lost in Translation or Marie Antoinette. She is known for drawn out scenes (just like her dad) and this movie really shows her excellent skill at it.

There is little dialogue and some extremely funny and painful scenes. This is the first movie that I have seen in a long time that reached me emotionally.

It’s not a movie that you have to see in the theater, but I went because I just adore Coppola. She is one of my top 5 favorite directors now. Definitely see it, though.

I appreciate her drawn-out style, but I found it to be more annoying in this film. It repeated and rehashed, a lot like Vincent Gallo’s “The Brown Bunny”. I have found, though, that her movies are best watched several times, in order to appreciate the layers of meaning. I will probably have better things to say after my second viewing.

@ladymia69: I would have to agree. Man, Brown Bunny was long as h + drawn out!
