What makes you balance your online and offline time?

Asked by kdrive (155points) January 23rd, 2011

I spend a lot of time online and can get lost surfing but lately I have been trying to get myself to go outside and spend time without my computer, just being in the moment. I asked the fluther community, what are the things that make you get you offline. Is it fatigue from looking at a computer too long or is it something you discover going on in your community? thanks and have a good day online and offline.

For me, it’s just having other things to do. I have a husband and a son that I’d much rather be spending time with and doing things with (sorry Fluther). I also like to do things with my friends, so that’s another great reason to get off the computer. I rarely get off the computer just because I’m tired of looking at it because I rarely get to that point. I’ll get on for a bit, go do other things, and then get back online if there’s nothing else I want to do.

In the past I have created “electronics-free” weeks. At least one week a month. You can then plan other things to do.

I am like @Seaofclouds: I have a husband, three kids, two dogs and a head injured sister. My life is pretty busy outside the computer.

I try to follow my doctor’s orders and get up every hour for at least 15 minutes. When my grandsons are here, on the weekends, I hardly have any time to sit down at the computer.

If the weather is nice, for example… summertime, then I’m more likely to not go on my computer.

Limiting time on computer by finding other things to do without it.

Sometimes I get off the computer because I want to nap.. or I’m bored and need to do other things, or want to interact with my family away from the computer. etc..
