How do I keep her media player out of my iTunes (and vice versa)?

I have an iPod, my partner has an MP3 player. Suddenly, her song list and my song list are getting mixed together. Any idea why these programs are getting mixed up, and how to keep them apart? (Keep in mind, I’m technologically handicapped.)

iTunes will read all music on your computer by default and is harder to change that behavior than in WMP. iTunes isn’t obedient.
Windows Media Player will only read whatever folders you tell it to, but specifying folders is slightly tricky, at least for the technologically impaired.
The simple solution is to never install iTunes, but that is the only way to get an iPod to work. iTunes (at least the Windoze version) has serious issues.
I have another idea, but it’ll take me a bit to figure out how to break it down and remove all of the geek-speak.
Just set up an account for her.
I tunes does not play well with others! Seperate computers worked for us… :(
@XOIIO That doesn’t work. iTunes will still misbehave.
I had to move my music someplace where iTunes not only would not, but could not look, and in such a way that isn’t exactly easy. I still haven’t come up with the right words to relay what I did to solve this issue the first time. The second time I ran into it, I gave the iPod to my cousin and just started using my Droid X, thus solving the issue permanently!
@jerv I meant on the computer. Just quickly throw an account together tfor her to handle her music on.
@XOIIO My wife and I have separate accounts on our shared desktop system. Guess what? It didn’t work!
@jerv Wow! That’s fucked up. Can’t you set itunes not to look in a specific folder then?
I find it very easy to control iTunes choice of music folder
Edit – > Preferences -> Advanced -> iTunes Media Folder location
iTunes does not notice songs outside the designated folder.
@jaytkay Maybe I just had bad luck, but my iTunes did not always honor that request. That is why I called it disobedient earlier.
