What is the next big step in electronic communications?

Asked by Aster (20028points) January 25th, 2011

First we had letters, then telephones. Then we had email. Now we talk to friends live via the internet. What is the next step that’ll bring us even closer to our friends and family without leaving the house?

3D holographic projections of the person we “call”

@coffeenut I hope not! Then you’d all see that I am sitting here in my underwear!

I’d go with a smaller Bluetooth-like headset that is voice and data capable. If you want to reach the person by voice it would act like a phone, or if you wan tot send or receive text or video you would tap it to enable communication to the ubiquitous flat screen monitor on the wall in every room.

When I am on a conference call I am usually doing something else – email, bathroom, lab experiment, fluther. My productivity would be cut in half if they had a camera on me and I was tethered to the desk.

How about ESP and do away with cellphones, computers and IPods? Just think it and its at your command.
