Is not being able to make commitments to traditional paths a bad thing?
I don’t belong to a political party, but I vote… I don’t have a religion but I care about others… I don’t have a university major, but I learn… I don’t have a career, but I help where I can.
Is this a problem? Earlier in my life I was at a crossroads and I got derailed and made my own path. I am happy with my life and I feel like a success, but I wonder if my lifestyle is sustainable. What do you think?

When a person feels a commitment, they follow through on it, but where there is no feeling of commitment, there is no need to try to force the issue. You either have it or you don’t. There is no value judgement involved.
No its not a problem. You’re happy. :)
I agree with Deni. You are happy. You feel your life is a success. I have a philosophy (actually I stole it from Deepak Chopra) but if you are on the right path, it will feel right in your heart or your gut. If you feel uncomfortable, you are not on the right path. Perhaps you are trying to be something someone else expects you to be or you think people expect you to do something else. Listen to your inner self. So, if you are content, happy, feel successful and you can pay your bills and look after yourself… you are on the right path. As Yarnlady said, when you feel it is right to commit to something, you will.
As someone who has spent her life not following the traditional path, and been soundly emotionally bludgeoned for it on occasion, I can understand your dilemma, but I’ve always been much happier hanging out with the different drummer. Some will always give you grief, stand firm on your own convictions and you’ll be much happier.
You sound like you’re in a great place and would love to be there too! xx
What is the intrinsic value in following a “traditional” path?
Be happy with where you are and what you are doing.
Following a traditional path is much the same as alleviating yourself from the responsibility of thinking critically.
I think that this question is a good supplement.
