Is there anyway to add custom ringtones to the iPhone without jailbreaking it?

Asked by RareDenver (13173points) January 26th, 2011

I made this as my SMS tone a few years ago and would like to keep using it. I also used to have this assigned to my wife’s number.

I don’t want to jailbreak my iPhone, can it be done?

Assuming you have the current version of iOS on your phone, it’s simple to assign custom tones to phone numbers, you just go into their contact info in the Address book app and tap the “ringtone” box to select custom ringtones and assigned text tones (from the default list)

However, you can’t use custom-made text tones without jailbreaking.

Or as the saying goes “There’s an App for that !”

You can go to the App store and get a free App which has an easy interface to do it for you.

Ringtone Converter or Ringtone maker can both handle the job.

But they don’t handle DRM protected music straight from the iTunes store. Evidently any mp3 files are ok.

I use GarageBand to make mine. It’s very simple.

Of course you need GarageBand to do this.

@Lightlyseared just used that method and it worked great for the ringtone, I’m gonna have to shorten my SMS tone because at 43 seconds it 3 seconds too long for the iPhone.
