High Heels - how do you do it?

Asked by sarahjane90 (1805points) January 28th, 2011

I love heels. Adore them. I buy them and wear them once, and then I regret the fact that I wore them when I do. However I feel so much more sophisticated and sexy when I do!

I would love to trade in my flats and boots for a higher level of heel wearing…. I am so envious of those women who seem to never be without them, and don’t walk as though they are in agony!

So ladies, (or men)! how do you wear heels all day? Is it a myth? If not, please let me in on the secret!

@lucillelucillelucille I don’t know how you ladies walk in them much less run lol.

@sarahjane90 I am a man and I couldn’t tell ya. I would however think it takes practice and technique.

I can walk just fine in them appearance-wise – it just bloody hurts!

I’ve danced in heels for many years. That helps. Spending a little more on comfy high heel shoes is the key, as well.

@Mikewlf337 You just get used to them. There was a time I could sprint in them and that time will come again soon. ;)

There are thousands to choose from so buy only the ones that have no edges that cut, bind or decorations that annoy. Tighten up your abs and walk slightly heel to toe. Practice, it’ll come if you want it to.

If you want to wear high heels you have to get your feet used to them. Once they are, you can’t “spoil” your feet by wearing flats and sneakers all the time. I am used to heels and can stand on my feet in heels all day. It amazes people who see me standing all day. If I do alot of walking it is harder. That said, I think some of the 4” heels out are simply ridiculous. Why?? I think anything over 3” is a bit extreme and certainly not practical. Besides, does it make you look better? Certainly not when you are one of those women who can’t even walk gracefully in heels.

I love high heels and it’s not how I do it….it’s how she does it and I am on board!! Woof! ;)

Practice, practice, practice. And trust me the majority of us who seem as though we are not in agony….are in some kind of agony.;-)

Praaaactice.
I have danced in heels and I so tired and could not think so I ended up loosing on of my shoes. And my grandmother gave them to me when she came to visit us from Zambia. I feel so bad… now I only have 1 of them :(

but yeah it really hurts being in heels and mine slip off – gaaah so annoying!

any tricks will be very well appreciated.

The first heels I ever wore was when I was in college and danced in a show, so I learned to dance in them before walking in them. After that I mostly wore short heels or flats because I refused to wear any shoes that were not comfortable when I tried them on. Now I see other older women’s feet that look knobby and sore. The toes are all cramped and ugly. Mine are in pretty good shape and I can still run and dance. I think it’s from NOT wearing heels. But maybe my fairy godmother’s wand touched my feet. She missed my hands, which look as old as I am.

Standing in them isn’t so much a problem, or if I had to wear them all day. Its just that I have a lot of walking on uneven out door pavement each day, which I guess is what makes it so painful!

I don’t, not anymore. I broke my big toe when I was 8 and now if I wear anything over 1 or 2 inches I am paralysed with pain after 40 minutes.

My wife hasn’t worn heels since she wore them at Dodger Stadium.
I told her that she could have broken an ankle wearing them in a place with such treacherous footing.
That was 1994.
