On E, or whatever channel - does watching a "behind the scenes" of a film buzzkill it for you?

Or do you not mind watching it and then seeing the movie?
Does it matter if it’s an FX type film or not?
Do you ever watch a behind the scenes program after already having seen the movie?

I don’t like watching the behind-the-scenes stuff, as it does ruin the magic of a movie for me. I call that the ‘backstage effect’, which also applies to real life, like when you work somewhere. Once you’ve seen what it’s really like, you can never get the magic back.
No, I think it’s awesome. As a new writer for TV and film, I’m fascinated at the process of stories going from the writer’s head to the page to being greenlit to the sets and picking the actors, finding locations, rehearsing, shooting, etc., etc. A lot of times, my fave part of watching the DVD is the backstory of how the show/movie came together.
I’ve worked in production and I’m working to get there again with my stories.
I am absolutely addicted to “Making of…” and “Behind the Scenes” features, and actor/director/writer commentaries. It adds to the movie magic for me…
I have two minds about this. A rabid mover lover since I was a little cowboy, I love behind-the-scenes movie stuff. I was into it long before there was a cottage industry built around it. But at the same time, when I see a film, I want to be lost in it, unaware of how a particular special effect was done, which star is gay, what a so-and-so twenty-something movie critic thinks of the film, or what its grosses are. As if any of those pieces of knowledge should have _anything to do with the quality of the film._
One thing’s sure: it’s impossible to escape this E trend.
I prefer to watch behind-the-scenes stuff after watching the movie. Sometimes the features will contain some spoilerish stuff. For example, I watched Land of the Dead last night, and afterward watched the behind the scenes feature. One of the stars completely spoiled an important plot point, and I’d have been pretty upset if I had watched it before watching the actual movie.
I love the behind the scenes stuff. I enjoy learning about how all of that neat stuff was created and what the director’s thoughts were and how the actors came to be able to portray the characters. Usually the behind the scenes shows don’t give away the story line, so that’s not a problem to watch one of these shows before you’ve seen a movie.
One of the most intersting ones I saw was on the comedy Blades of Glory. They had to make it look like Will Ferrell could actually figure skate. So they created this body suit (for real skaters) and then created electronic face masks for the actors. The actors had to do all sorts of facial movements and the movements were photographed from every which way imagineable and then all of the info was entered into a computer. Then they would film the real skaters and then put the faces of the actors onto the bodies. They needed thousands of potential facial reactions and head positions so that they could accurately match them up.
You can read about the “facial replacement” techniques used in Blades of Glory here
I enjoy it, usually. If it’s an extra half-hour on the glory of the green-screen, then I don’t. Even now, I’ll sit through a Behind The Scenes feature on the original Star Wars Trilogy.
You know those lightsaber handles? Flash guns, all of them.
