If humankind ever developed means to live vicariously through surrogate would it be more helpful or hurtful overall?

If humanity was able to live out their lives through surrogates like the sci-fi movie of the same name would it be more advantageous than not or way more of a disadvantage? Quadriplegics would be able to work, ski, go hiking, people doing dangerous jobs like divers, workers in mines, hazardous material handling would not risk danger. Neither would the military or law enforcement. But would people end up a fat sloppy Jabba The Huts because they would never physically have to do much? Would there be a new form of gang banger or robber because they themselves are not risk?

i’m only going to give a quick simple thought. look at how people use video games. there’s usually a bell curve. in the middle of that bell curve i think most would be pretty lazy and maybe even irresponsible to their surrogate. but i like your idea about it’s use for a quadripelegic.
i’m against people useing dope. i knew a guy that that had been in a jeep roll-over [NOTE- AND THIS IS IMPORTANT if you buy a jeep the roll bars are for looks not for actual rolling!!!]; he could only use his right wrist slightly. thus he could control his wheel chairs driving a tiny bit. he liked using l.s.d. i was stupid enough to tell him he shouldn’t do that. he said: ‘what! you afraid i’m going to jump off a building? run over somebody with my wheel chair?’ it allowed him a small break from that prison which his life had become. in his instance he should be able to use any drugs anytime he wants.
so, i think most would not use a surrogate wisly but for a parapalegic it would likly be great.
