Do you suppose that companies who use automated systems ever record a customers experience when they're trying to get through all the hoops?

They always say, “Your call is important to us” then proceed to send you hither and yon until you hit the end and the computer hangs up on you. If they REALLY cared, they’d record what the customers were saying, as their frustration mounted, then listen back to the recordings and FIX the mess.

If they recorded me they’d hear, “6 2 0 5 5 5 3 3 31”.....then the computer reading it back.
Me: ”NO!! SIX 2 0 5 5 5 3 3 3 1” and on and on and on.
Computer: “I think you said, you need help going to the bathroom.”
Me: “NO DAMN IT!!! I CAN’T LOG IN TO MY ACCOUNT!!”

If they listened they’d hear customers close to tears… And yes, I know if I just keep punching 0 I get to a customer service person….who doesn’t speak English….

I read somewhere that some automated phone systems respond to cursing by patching you to a live operator. I don’t know if it’s true but it would be clever.

They need to fix it so the customer doesn’t freakin’ feel like cussing!

@Dutchess_III I feel your pain! God! is there a more infuriating, screamingly maddening agony than having to work your way through all those menus, only to, as you say, get nowhere at the end. Another similar horror, and every bit as annoying, are unsolicitated sales calls at all times of the day or night, because the call centres are not working on local time so are unaware that they’re calling you at 10pm to ask if you’re happy with your gas/electricity provider. AARRRRRRGGGGG!!!!!!! I have a caller display and if I don’t recognise the number, it doesn’t get answered, I’m afraid. Life is too short to be bullied over the phone, and I’ve had a few scary calls from overly persistant callers.

You know we’re talking about this and I’ve had two calls this afternoon, and we’re unlisted too, how do these call centres get folks phone numbers? I also had to try getting through to the customer service dept at Argos and actually smiled while working my way through their menus because I thought of your question :-)
