I haven’t done it this way for years, but… years ago, Velveeta Shells and Cheese used to be my go-to with some chopped veggies and a can of tuna.
Kraft Mac & Cheese. It’s the cheesiest!
That and a few Hebrew National Hot Dogs, and it’s Saturday Night around here.
Annie’s white cheddar using yogurt instead of milk and butter is my favorite. But I certainly wouldn’t turn up my nose at the classic Kraft.
I only buy packaged mixes when they are on sale. We have various brands in the cupboard. My two adult grandsons who live with me make it once in awhile.
I would pull some out of the freezer from the last time I made Mac & Cheese. I always make extra and freeze it.
Boston Market or just about any deli in any grocery store. It is usually good if it is fresh.
Did I read the question wrong? Didn’t the OP specifically say that he/she didn’t want to make the macaroni and cheese? I’m assuming that by make she meant not only the baked home made kind, but also the kind you have to prepare from a mix, like Kraft (although it is pretty danged yummy!)
If you want to go out and get some, if you are lucky enough to have a Whole Foods market nearby, their hot deli usually (but not always) has mac and cheese and it’s awesome!
For frozen mac and cheese, I like Amy’s
I also have tasted and loved Trader Joe’s brand (but as a vegetarian, I can’t have it, now that I discovered that it’s made with rennet, a non vegetarian item).
Some of the other “healthy” style green grocers like Henry’s, Sprouts, Frazier Farms and Jimbos usually have prepared (but not frozen) macaroni and cheese in their takeout deli fridges, and so far the ones I’ve tried have been pretty good.
If I didn’t want to make it I would by Stouffer’s frozen mac and cheese. That’s my favorite non-homemade, though I don’t really like my mac and cheese to be quite so cheddary, but you asked what we would get instead of homemade.
Kroger sells Bob Evan’s pre-made mac n cheese that you just microwave. It is the best I’ve ever had!
@BBSDTfamily I think I have had that, the Bob Evans. It’s not frozen, it’s refrigerated; in my store it’s sold next to the non-frozen tubs of mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes and the meat dishes, from Hormel, e.g. like beef tips in gravy, that sort of thing. It isn’t bad, if I remember.
@lillycoyote Yep, that’s where they sell it in my store too. It’s “lightly” cheesy and I love it!
Well if I didn’t want to make any at all (when I think “make,” I think homemade), I’d just go to the Soul Spot on Atlantic Avenue, then, which probably wouldn’t help @jca unless she lives in Brooklyn!
I’ve never strayed from Kraft Mac & Cheese. It’s a classic.
People don’t read anymore, clearly.
I would pick something else to eat. I kind of have this mad love affair with Kraft Mac & Cheese. Beyond that I sometimes will stop by Giant or Whole Foods as mentioned above and grab it while I’m there. But I’m never happy with the taste. It always seems bland with store delis, like they didn’t drain it and used crappy water that leaves a weird taste – Chicken Out is the WORST mac I’ve ever had.
Stouffer’s frozen… without a doubt.
Stouffers, frozen food section of the store, best mac and cheese on the planet.
Another vote for Stouffers. The $1 Michelinas isn’t bad for, well, $1.
yum..Stouffers in the frozen section at Publix, Walmart or Kroger
make sure you bake it and make the top crisp, and then add a pat of butter. decadent.
**KFC has a killer mac n cheese..and you can get it at the drive thru..what could be more convenient?
