When was the last time that you saw or heard of a Personal Digital Assistant?

PDAs are still around. It’s just that a lot of people prefer the PDA /Smartphone combination finding it more convenient than having a dedicated PDA device. There’s the iPAQ for example. I used to work in a hotel and then at a cell phone company – so I’ve seen a lot of them from business travelers who don’t like roaming charges and don’t want to switch out devices for a local rate or prefer them for some other reason. And at the cell company I saw more people talking about PDA/SP combos because there’s the Blackberry / iPhone which both have a lot of the same features as a PDA but obviously won’t be running Windows Mobile and a lot of phones didn’t have word processing capabilities until recently. I’d say 3 years ago I saw a real dip in my bubble of experience. But seeing people carrying them around everywhere in the rest of the world? 5 years or so.

Anyway, it’s 3AM, that’s all I got off the top of my head.

Well… My brother still uses one for uni. But admittedly it is an old one. But some people just don’t want the extra expenses from having to sign up to a internet plan and whatnot.

I still have one shoved away in a drawer but I haven’t used it in around four years. I haven’t seen anyone else use one in that time either.

3 people on my crew have iPhones. 3 others have Palm Pilots. Don’t rule out that not everyone can afford the newest flavors.

I know I got rid of my Palm and replaced it with a Blackberry in ~2004. But I adopted technology early when I could afford it. Now I realize it’s probably better to wait.

The only ones I’ve seen in the last five years were at thrift stores and garage sales.

@filmfann Low-end smartphones are free with a contract, so anybody with a cellphone can update for free. Hell, even my $20 Tracfone from years ago could do scheduling and note-taking! It must be a personal preference thing.

Here’s the thing with me and technology. I’m so out of it, I don’t even know when something comes in and out. So apparently this PDA thingy, it was in and I didn’t know about it and now it’s been replaced by something and I still don’t know about it. It really saves a lot of time and energy for me to not care about any of it, I think.
