Top ramen jelly lovers, is there anything special you add to make it taste better or different?
My dad LOVES to buy Top Ramen. Since I was a kid, I’ve been loving this stuff. I dont eat it often, but when I do I always add a little Tapatio (hot sauce) and some limon juice…and that usually does the trick for me. But anyways, today I’m thinking about cooking some since I’m freezing cold and I know its a quick way to warm up. But I’m in the mood for something different…anybody add anything special to their noodle soup?...and if so, what? Any suggestions?

Btw…I’m all out of tapatio sauce :( and I’m really picky about my hot sauce.
Trader Joe’s Spring Onion Rice Noodle Soup is my thing, and I’ll mix in scrambled eggs, or chopped asparagus or mushrooms, sometimes tuna, and then top it with just a bit of Thai or Vietnamese chili garlic sauce.
oooo…garlic sauce…yum. Mushrooms >_> didnt think about that. Mushrooms are good.
tuna, and a bit of lime. But I usually go for valentina instead of tapatio.
Valentina would of been my second option…but there’s nones U_U
Mine is simple, but I add a bit of milk and butter.
Awwww…I’m lactose intolerant U_U I love milk..but it doesn’t love me.
I drain all the water, add the seasoning packet and Kikkoman Terijaki sauce. I always loved their Chicken Teriyaki flavor but they discontinued it ! ))-; So now I have the oriental flavor.
My boyfriend puts in some tuna with mayo, and calls it tuna surprise. It sounds kind of gross, but it’s actually very comforting.

Lime, soy sauce, sometimes hot sauce (Tapatio, but there’s also this great Cajun one I have that I can’t remember the name of), scrambled egg
I sprinkle some dried chili pepper flakes on it. I’m a purist.
Peanut butter – dissolved in coconut milk, fish sauce, some scallions (and shrimp if you can), possibly bean sprouts and crushed peanuts, lime juice. Cilantro if you like that stuff. It’s like Thai peanut noodles.
When I was first learning to cook, I’d always make oriental flavor and add garlic powder and cayenne. Sometimes I would also add a can of mushrooms. Now I’d suggest sriracha sauce and maybe just a splash of fish sauce.
@incendiary_dan OMG THAT SOUNDS DELICIOUS. Fish sauce, though, sounds so disgusting that I’ve never bought it. I also , @laureth , love the idea of cilantro in it. Now I have got to try that soon!! I have a dozen bags of ramen with NO seasoning packets that I like. And these are big bags, too. I need to find the Oriental packets by themselves but I think that will never happen. );
I drained the water off and only used a bit of the seasoning packet. Then I’d stir in chopped up leftover chicken and veggies plus a bit of butter to help the noodles not stick. You could use olive oil instead of butter. Bland and boring compared to the above, which makes me want to buy some Top Ramen again and turn it into something yummy!
@Aster The thing about fish sauce is that it doesn’t impart any fishy taste. Usually when I first put some in there is a slight fish smell, but it seems to cook off. What it does add is a lot of savory-ness. Worcestershire sauce, is basically sweetened fish sauce, so if you have that it would work.
Yea fish sauce is pretty good, my mom uses it when she makers her homemade chines food….she’s awesome, I wish I had her cooking skillzzzz >_<
Over the years, the answer remain pretty much the same, as evidence this Ramen question from the archives.
Fish sauce, like they say, isn’t about fish. It’s mostly salty, with a certain succulent meatiness to it that makes it heavy on the umami flavor. It’s actually my “secret ingredient” in a lot of things, from shepherd’s pie to spaghetti sauce to chili. Seriously, try it.
I like to stir-fry a couple of vegetables and throw them in there. Usually bell peppers or mushrooms. Yum!
I got Thai fish sauce. All I saw today . Is that ok?
Probably. Was it the Thai Kitchen brand? It’s what I used for years until I found a good fish sauce I like at Asian markets.
