Does anyone have experience with a hammock tent?
I want to get a Hennessy hammock (basically a hammock with a tent roof over it) for camping this Spring. Has anyone bought one & what was your experience with it?

I haven’t but my BIL has a hammock tent and enjoys it for backpacking.
If you go here and search for Hennessy hammock, you can find a lot of cyclists’ opinions.

From what I recall, from reading the messages over the years, most people liked them a lot, but a few mentioned sometimes finding campgrounds without suitable trees.
I had what was known as a “jungle hammock”. Basically it had a canvas bottom and top with a mosquito net sides.
It was comfy enough. My only complaint is that it really needed to have some sort of support to hold the top and sides up/open. Sure, you could tie them up to hold them in place if you had a tree branch conveniently located (it was, after all, designed for the jungle). However, that never seem to be the case for me. I was able to create the needed supports out of some old tent poles and enjoyed using it for a couple of years.
They are the best piece of camping gear ever invented. Finding 2 trees to hang from is half the battle but once you do lights out! You can’t be claustrophobic or not sleep on your back. Other than that in a down pour they do the job as good or better than ground tents.
I would just so LOVE to have one! I’d replace my bed at home with it! Maybe…maybe not…
This sounds like an awesome idea! Yet, I have hung up a few hammocks before: if you can find two trees close enough together to hang the hammock between, you’re extra lucky if you find that both trees have fairly low lying branches so that you can merely swing a rope around each side to tie the thing up. But if neither tree has a low lying branch, you’ll have to have a six inch long screw to screw into each tree, a screw with a hook at one end. It took me ‘forever’ to get those hooks into the trees, so unless you’re planning on going to the same camping spot each time, getting set up for the night could be a challenge…
