Ipod Question: What is going on with the ITunes to Ipod transfer?
I am getting a new Ipod…that’s settled. However, I noticed this with another Ipod I had before as well and am hoping some tech-savvy person can let me know what is going on.
I have an 8 GB Ipod Classic that I have been using. I mostly download radio shows and audio books. I put the downloads onto my hard drive then export them to ITunes and then onto my Ipod. I was able to probably download about 50 to 100 radio shows and audiobooks. As time wears on, I have to “uncheck” more and more shows/books to put ONE show on. That is, I have to eliminate exporting off ITunes onto my Ipod more shows (say four or five three-hour shows to simply get ONE show on.) So, now, my Ipod is only holding a handful of shows (about a dozen) when it used to hold 50 shows! The shows are still on ITunes, okay? I just cannot put them onto my Ipod….there isn’t enough space on my Ipod (it says). So, I have most shows “unchecked” on my ITunes and cannot get them on my Ipod anymore. My Ipod now only holds half a dozen shows! And won’t have take anymore.
I am absolutely confused. Am I missing something? I hope someone can help me understand this.

I’m a bit cunfused, but it just sounds like you need a bigger ipod. Also make sure that your ipod is completely empty, do an erase-and-sync and select only what you want.
I apologize for the bad grammar in the previous posting…someone had come to the door to pick me up…...!! And I was rushing to finish!
On ITunes (example) I have 100 tunes to begin with…okay? I load them all onto my IPod. Fine. Then, I add other shows to ITunes and every time I plug in my Ipod, it syncs with what is on my ITunes.
Eventually, when I add a new show, ITunes says, “Cannot export this onto your Ipod….as there isn’t any space….” So, I UNCHECK something on the ITunes list and it allows me to export the NEW show onto my Ipod. Whatever is UNCHECKED is deleted automatically from my Ipod when it is unchecked on my I Tunes list.
However, what happens after time is that I have to uncheck MORE and MORE items simply to get ONE show into my Ipod. It makes no sense because the shows on my Ipods have been automatically struck and there should be room.
I am not sure that I am explaining this correctly. I thought that if you uncheck an Item on your ITunes list, it will not be exported to your Ipod and therefore NOT take up excess space.
I hope someone that understands what I am writing can help.

I don’t know if you ever got an answer to this, but I the main screen that displays the “general” info about your iPod, in iTunes, there should be a check-box that says something like “Only sync checked items.” Check that, and it should do what you expect. Again, maybe you got this answered, or just got your, presumably, higher capacity iPod.
